(i) Consider a conductor of resistance 'R'. length L. thickness d' andresistivity p.
Now this conductor is cut into four equal parts. What will be the new resistivity of
each of these parts? Why?
(ii) Find the resistance if all of these parts are connectedin:
(a) Parallel
(b) Series
(III) Out of the combinations of resistors mentioned above in the previous part, for a given
voltage which combination will consume more power and why?

Answer:

1)Resistivity will not change bcz it depends upon nature of material of conductor.

2)the length of each part=l/4

R=pl/A

therefore, resistance of each part=(pl/4) / A=l/4

a)In parallel , 1/ R = 1/R+1/R+1/R+ 1/R = 4/ R

1/R =16R , R/16 ohm

b)In series, R = r/4+r/4+r/4+r/4=R ohm

3)P= v^2/R, if R is less , power will be more

now, ATQ

R is lesser in parallel and power will be consumed more
