Transitive verb

EXPLANATION:

There are two different types of verbs. Transitive and intransitive verb. We know that a verb defines an action . Transitive verb requires an object to act upon. Intransitive verb does not require an object to act upon.

Example of transitive verbs:

  1. She loves painting.
  2. He threw the ball.

In these two sentences ‘loves’ and threw’ are verbs which does not have meaning if the objects ‘paint’ and ‘ball’ are not there. Example: she loves.., He threw the …… These sentences asks the questions what and who? These kinds of verbs that totally depend on the object are called transitive verbs. The given sentence does not have meaning for the verb ‘spare’ ( ‘I could not spare…’) without the object ‘time’. So it is a transitive verb. On the other hand, the intransitive verb has an action verb without an object. Example: They sang.  The cat ran.
