Narrator couldn't believe his eye as the place where they reached was a large villa . he thought any humble dwelling would be their destination but it was just opposite.

Answer :

This question is from the short story 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' by A. J. Cronin.

The narrator couldn't believe his eyes as he had thought that the two boys, Nicola and Jacopo, would take him to their modest dwellings in a small village. However, the boys asked the driver to stop the car in front of an enormous building with high stone walls that resembled a large villa. This was totally in contrast to what he had imagined.
