Indirect/Reported Speech refers to a dialogue being told to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: Emma said,"I have dance class today." (Direct)

              Emma said that she had dance class that day. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'this' changes to 'that', 'these' changes to 'those', 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day', 'yesterday' changes to 'the previous day'  and many other words will have to be made.

"I didn't see you either," I said. "But I heard you come in." (Direct)

I said that I didn't see him either and added that I heard him come in. (Indirect)
