I do not ask
for the sun and moon from your sky
your farm, your land,
your high houses or your mansions
I do not ask for gods or rituals,
castes or sects
Or even for your mother, sisters, daughters.
I ask for my rights as a man.
Q) Write your observations in about 250 words on the above piece of poetry.
Answers
Answer:
These lines are from "White Paper" by Sharankumar Limbale, translated by Priya Adarkar
In these lines the poet is demanding for his rights, which he is deprived of on account of the social evil of caste discrimination. He is very straight forward and clear in his expression of his desires and intentions.
He says to the high caste people that he is not interested in the sun and the moon of high class people; nor is he interested and desirous of owning their farms, lands, high houses, and mansions in which is present every luxury of life.
The poet is also not interested in their gods and rituals; nor does he want to be included in their caste system and sects. He is also not interested in their mothers, sisters, or daughters.
All he wants is his rights and the freedom to live freely of any discrimination.
