4x² - 12x
= (2x)² - 2 × (12/2x) + 3² - 3²
= (2x -3)² - 3²
= (2x -3)² + (-3²)
∴ a = 3 and b = (-3²)

4x² -12x in the form of (2x +a)² + b

=4x² - 2.(2x )(3) + (3)² - (3)²
=(2x)² -2(2x )(3) +(3)² -(3)²
=(2x -3)² - 9
={2x +(-3) }² + (-9)
