Given : I have 8 pennies and some quarters, nickels, and dimes. The number of pennies plus nickels equals the number of dimes. I have 3 quarters for every 2 pennies and 3 dimes for every 2 quarters.

To Find : How many coins are nickels?

A. 28

B. 18

C. 15

D. 10

Solution:

quarters = Q

nickels = N

and dimes = D

Pennies = 8

number of pennies plus nickels equals the number of dimes.

=> 8 + N =  D

3 quarters for every 2 pennies

=> Quarts = (3/2) * 8  = 12

Q =  12

3 dimes for every 2 quarters.

=> D  = (3/2) 12

=> D = 18

8 + N  = 18

=> N = 10

10 Coins are Nickles
