let each boys get x marbles
then,
total no. of marbles = 18x
now, when no. of marbles increase by 2 and no.of boys increase by two then,

(18x +2) = 20(x-5)
=> 18x + 2 = 20x - 100
=>20x -18x = 2+100
=>2x = 102
=> x = 51

Hence,
Total no. of marbles = 18×51 = 918

let number of marbles each boy gets initially be m, then total number of marbles = 18m
after increase,
number of boys 20
number of marbles 18m+2
number of marbles each would receive is 18m+2/20 and it is also given as m-5
equating both, we get 18m+2= 20m-100
2m=102 and m= 51

so initially each boy got 51 marbles, so total number of marbles to be distributed initially is 51*18= 918 marbles
