In order to become a software developer, a foundation in maths and science plays a key attribute in thinking, solving real world problems efficiently.

Computer science is an entirely cumulative field of study. That means, each successive topic builds off prior topics. If you have previously attempted.

hope it helps

That's positive that you feel you love programming/coding! You have reached half ways already!

Considering you are in programming domain already, being professor in same field-any of following can be reason why you feel you suck-perform poor at it.

  • Devoting less time to understand fundamentals. - One should not rush to coding directly. First of all one hs to understand underlying theory/fundamentals properly and than start coding from simple-small programs to complicated ones. Initially you may feel-I know it all, yet read and understand it a fresh.
  • Reading readymade code/programs available in book/guide/tutorials. - This one is a killer. Keep it very clear however easy- handy the readymade material is- it is as dangerous as Junk food to your body. Once programs are available and you read them direct- you are never going to apply your logic-brain. If you know the solution of the problem beforehand, you will never try different possible iterations to find the correct solution. In short, however poor your logic is, never read readymade program. Try to think the problem in parts, making it simple. Find possible solution, code it. Revise it, repeat- you will make a perfect program soon!
  • Lack of confidence- most of the time students without making efforts accept it like- programming is not my cup of tea! You have to be positive as tell your self agin and again that- it may take time but you will make all efforts and you will learn. You can make programming your cup of tea-as customised as you like!
  • A wrong book picked. - Yes, this can also be a damm reason. Manytimes beginners start with a tough book which make them passive about subject. Many times few topics are covered nicely in book1 and few other are explored better in book2- use library and online tutorials effectively to search for easy to understand material.
  • Keep on asking questions. Use online resources, forums and be active. Take up projects and complex problems as challenge and discuss it with your friends, faculty and try solving. It will boost your confidence and clear fundamentals too!
  • Programming is not as difficult as it is taken. Be positive and put proper efforts.

Happy Learning!
