OBJECT

MARK ME AS THE BRAINLIEST

anuj1151: first tell me why?
GarvitTaneja: pen in this sentence is object as we are saying that"I have a pen" and we are talking about the pen
anuj1151: As object is action receiver. In this case it is not receiving any action. And in my opinion it should be subject complement.

Pen is the object.

Because English is an SVO language . So I becomes the Subject, have is the Verb and Pen is the Object.

anuj1151: But English also has subject complement
tommyscroissant: Yes, English has subject complements but 'have' in this case is not a linking verb. It instead is the main Verb and not the auxiliary verb because the Subject here possesses the pen.
tommyscroissant: The object pen is not giving any information about the subject, hence the subject complement case is ruled out.
anuj1151: Thanks
