I have been suffering for depression for 3 years how to overcome it

For coming out or can say for overcoming depression you need to follow the following steps....

1 meditate for min. 15m
2 take 1 cup of green tea and just empty your mind.
3 try to go out of town like on hill climbing or something else of that sort.
4 make new friends.
5 get engaged in some work.

I wouldn't go around and treat depression as some minor disease and give you lifestyle tips because I too had been through a time like this.
The first thing you need to do is open up to someone who cares; most people dismiss depression as a phase but it is really serious. So try to find someone who takes it as seriously as you.
Secondly, set an appointment with a therapist or a psychologist. The cause of depression vary from person to person and so do their methods o treatment. Getting a psychologist will get you the adequate method to get over the depression.
Thirdly, ignore all those talks in magazines about green tea and desserts and blah blah blah helping come over depression.
And please join a support group, there, you can share your dilemmas with people who are suffering a similar fate and those who came out of the pit of depression.

Lipimishra2: I totally agree with your answer. It's really important to reach for help and share. Depression is certainly not something you can snap out of just like that.
Annabeth: Exactly, depression can only be overcome if one shares their thoughts. Going out for a stroll ain't gonna do anything.
