Given sentence: I have received the test.

This sentence has to be changed in the structure of passive voice. First of all, let's understand the concept! Here, the concept of the question is "Voices - Active and Passive". ‎In English Grammar, there are two types of voices, namely, active voice and passive voice. Let's know what are they!

↦Active voice: A sentence is said to be in active voice if it's subject performs the action to its object. \:

  • Structure – Subject + Verb + Object
  • Example – She is stitching the materials.

↦Passive voice: The sentences where its subject receives the action from the object are said to be in passive voice.

  • Structure – Object + Helping verb + Verb 3 + by + Subject
  • Example – The materials are being stitched by her.

Now we know what the topic- voices is about. So let's know some common rules to change the voice of a sentence!

Have a look at the structure of active voice mentioned above. It only consists of three components, i.e, subject, verb and object. To change a sentence with this structure to passive voice:

  • The places of subject and the object must be interchanged with each other, while interchanging, pronominal changes also takes place, in a way that the subject pronoun changes to object pronoun.
  • Then a suitable helping verb/ auxiliary verb have to be inserted according to the tense of the sentence.
  • The form of the verb has to be changed to the third form, i.e, to the past participle form.
  • The preposition "by" has to be inserted before the subject.

And by applying these rules, we have changed the sentence to passive voice.

  • Answer in passive voice: The test has been received by me.
