I received your letter yesterday.
I had received you letter yesterday.
The above sentence has a 'have' in it, that is present perfect tense, that cannot be used with the word 'yesterday' that signifies the day that has passed away, i.e., the past.
We can do either of the following two-
- We can remove the word 'have' completely and obtain the first sentence.
- We can change the word 'have' to 'had', that is past perfect tense.
