Let the total number of apples be = x

ATQ

 \frac{2}{3}  \times x = 6

x = 6  \times  \frac{3}{2}

x = 3 \times 3 = 9

Total number of apples = 9

No. of apples left = 6

Apples given to brother = 9-6= 3
