Answer:

The number of 5 rupee coins = 20

The number of 2 rupee coins = 60

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

The number of 2 rupee coin is thrice the number of five rupee coins

Total money = Rs 220

To find,

The number of five rupee coins and two rupee coin

Solution:

Let 'x' be the number of 5 rupee coin and 'y' be the number of 2 rupee coin

Since the number of 2 rupee coin is thrice the number of five rupee coins, we have

y = 3x -----------------(1)

The total value of  5 rupee coins = 5x

The total value of 2 rupee coins = 2y

Total money = Total value of 5 rupee coins  +The total value of 2 rupee coins

220 = 5x + 2y -------------------(2)

Substituting the value of 'y' from equation(1) in equation (2)

220 = 5x + 2×3x

5x+6x = 220

11x = 220

x  = \frac{220}{11} = 20

x = 20

The number of 5 rupee coins = 20

Substituting the value of 'x' in equation (1) we get

y = 3x = 3×20 = 60

y = 60

The number of 2 rupee coins = 60

∴ The number of 5 rupee coins = 20

The number of 2 rupee coins = 60

Answer:

The number of 5 rupee coins = 20 and the number of 2 rupee coins = 60.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :  some five rupee coins and some two rupee coins .

   The number of 2 rupee  coin is thrice the number of 5 rupee coins.

Total money = Rs. 220.

To find : number of 5 rupee coins and 2 rupee coins.

Solution : let x be the number of 5 rupee coins and y be the 2 rupee coins.

as given , the number of 2 rupee coins is thrice the number of 5 rupee coins ⇒ y = 3x.-----eq.(1)

total amount of 5 rupee coins =5x

total amount of 2 rupee coins = 2y

total money = 220 ⇒ 5x +2y = 220. ---eq. (2)

Now,  5x +2×3x = 220 ⇒ 5x+6x= 220.

                                   11x = 220

x = 220/11 = 20.

putting x=20 in eq.(2) we get, y = 3x = 3×20 = 60.

So, the number of 5 rupee coins = 20 and

      the number of 2 rupee coins = 60 , the amount on 5 rupee coins =5×20 = Rs.100 and the amount on 2 rupee coins = 2×60 =Rs. 120
