The story The Diamond Maker by HG Wells is a story of how prejudice from the narrator's side who thinks that the diamond maker is not, in fact, a diamond maker because of his dressing style and lack of expensive perfumes has missed the perfect opportunity of a lifetime.
If they meet again after a decade, then the narrator will not be so extreme and will believe what the diamond maker says.
