Moving charge and Magnetism

Question :

A charge with 10‾¹¹ Cb and 10‾⁷ kg mass moving with a velocity of 10⁸ m/s along x-axis. A uniform static magnetic field of 0.5T is acting along y-axis. The magnetic force (magnitude and direction) on charge

Answer :

★ Force on a charge q moving with velocity v in a magnetic field B is given by

  • F = q (v × B)

ATQ,

  • v = 10⁸ i m/s
  • B = 0.5 j T

⭆ F = q (v × B)

⭆ F = 10‾¹¹ (10⁸ i × 0.5 j)

We know that, i × j = k

F = 5 × 10‾⁴ N along z-axis

(B) is the correct answer.

Cheers!
