I know why the caged bird Sings is a powerful and meaningful poems that has a Universal appeal the poem is both simple and complex it underline the concerned for freedom which is simple to understand but its structure being metaphorical is a bit too difficult unless you have a clear background of circumstances in which African American continue to live.there are two birds compare and contrast it in the poem The caged bird and freebird the caged bird is a metaphor for the black American whereas the free word stands for a white person the boss of phrase which put restriction on the caged bird can be identified in human terms as racism sexism and powerlessness of their victims.this imprisonment behind bars of rage is unnatural it produces the response of the song that takes search form of struggle self affirmation or self expression for freedom the freedom of the free bird is naturally envious in contrast.the poem opens with an image of the free bird flying with the wind in the beautiful Orange sky in the evening you continue to float in the windhover stream and dips his wing downstream in the gentle sunlight he can claim the whole sky has his own.on the other hand the caged bird a metaphor for an African American or any oppressed the person is in range his wings clipped and his feet are tied his condition is such that he can hardly move and have a glimpse of the beautiful sky it remind us of the image of the bird Indian birds poem that strike his weak against the birds in range and is mounted and still he does not stop singing the birds of restriction which are mostly physical in nature can never suppress mental files for freedom the song of the caged bird is heared far and wide.the free bird who has total freedom can go on another flight with another win and can have a satisfactory look on the fat worm waiting for him to drown.on the other hand the caged bird stands on the grave of Dream this reveal the poet on dream discrimination and racism formed the boss of race and she cannot achieve that her white counterpart were able to achieve.despite the fact that the caged bird cannot even move freely in the narrow space of his cage he cries out for freedom and equality his song for freedom remain irrepressible.

hope it helps you

This poet is written by Maya Angelou , feminist writer . The caged bird symbolises African American who have been the victim of the discriminatory policy for a long time . Their plight is as reasonable as a present but the birds demand for liberty is rejected bluntly ... the first line demonstrates the freedom it experiences to move about and glide freely throughout the air ... It was over a stream of wind and floats downwards .The bird is shown in state of great tranquility. It is so utterly fee and without resistance that it there's to claim the sky. The whole of firmament is his big home. The cage is narrow and metaphorical bars are of rage . This represents to the fact of alienation of the bird. but the most important thing is that despite being in this atali despondent predicament the caged bird opens his throat to sing...
