Suppose I was still in middle school, grade 8. When I told people this, could I say "I'm studying grade 8."??

I think in English, we cannot study a grade. Even if I'm in university, I think we can't say "I'm studying Year 2.".

What do we say? What about "I'm in grade 8." or "I'm in Year 2 at a university?" ??

I know when it comes to university, americans say "I'm a college sophomore." right?

I wonder what British people say instead.
