I made a square frame for my favorite bird picture from four wooden pieces. Each piece is a rectangle with a perimeter of 24 inches. What is the area and perimeter of the picture and frame, together?

To find :  area and perimeter of the picture

Solution:

Perimeter of Rectangle = 24 inch  

Let say Length  of rectangle = L   inch

Then  Breadth of rectangle = 12 - L   inch

four rectangle are joined to form square

=> length of  rectangle = 4 ( Breadth of rectangle)

=> L = 4(12 - L )

=> L = 48 - 4L

=>  5L = 48

=> L = 9.6  

Length of rectangle = 9.6 inch

Breadth of rectangle = 2.4 inch

Area of rectangle = 9.6 * 2.4  =  23.04 sq inches

Area of Square = 4 * 23.04 = 92.16  sq inch

Perimeter of square = 4 * 9.6  = 38.4 inch
