It honestly depends! I was recently called on to make an impromptu speech (my guilty pleasure hehe), so I made eye contact with a few individuals in the audience and maintained a smile. I do often look at their shirts or feet when my eyes wander.

When I speak to someone one-to-one, I try my best to make eye contact. Sometimes my attention may drift away, so I may look past whom I’m talking to. Most of the times, however, I use a lot of gestures when I speak, so hopefully that compensates for my rudeness XP.
