Answer: (i) The poem is ‘The Heart of the Tree’ composed by an American poet Henry Cuyler Bunner.
(ii) The poet begins the poem by asking a very simple yet a poignant question which is the heart of the poem. The first line is used to ask the question, “What does he plant who plants a tree?” In fact, the speaker is asking what does it mean when one plants a tree? What are the consequences and what are the benefits?
The answer to the question is given later in the poem.
‘The Shaft of beauty’ suggests that the tree is ‘a monument of beauty’ that is to be cherished by humankind The tree is a real “home to heaven” as it is free from all sins.
Hope it helps.
Thanks
