Buddhism and Jainism spread because:

The Buddhists and Jain monks went from place to place all through the year and taught people about the principles. With the passage of time, some such monks built monasteries.

People came to such monasteries with gifts, food, and medicines and were taught in return. Over a period, both Buddhism and Jainism spread to various places.
