Hon’ble Principal, Vice Principal, Teachers and My Dear Fellow Students!!

I am Namrata from Class XII, Section – A and your host for today. I warmly welcome you all to our 21st Annual Day Function.

Before we begin with today’s events and shows, I thought it wise to deliver a short speech on one of our great national leaders of India and the very first name that came across my mind was our first Prime Minister of Independent India, i.e. Jawaharlal Nehru. I know he doesn’t need an introduction as his great contribution towards India’s Independence Struggle made him immortal and this is the reason why he continues to live in the heart of every Indian.

Born on November 14, 1889, Jawaharlal Nehru was a major figure in the freedom struggle of India and politics too. He became the ruling head of our country in the year 1947 and ruled until he died in the year 1964. He is believed to be the creator of the contemporary Indian nation-state: a secular, socialist, sovereign and democratic republic. Interestingly, he is addressed with several names, such as Pandit Nehru owing to his birth origin in Kashmiri Pandit community and not to forget Chacha Nehru out of pure love of children for him.

He was born in an affluent family where his father Motilal Nehru was a famous lawyer as well as a nationalist leader and his mother’s name is Swaroop Rani Nehru. He completed his graduation from the Trinity College, Cambridge and later on got trained as a barrister at the Inner Temple. When he returned to India, he began his practice at the Allahabad High Court from where his interest in national politics grew and because of which he left his legal practice too.

Jawaharlal Nehru became a committed nationalist right from his teenage days and a rising figure in the nation-state politics during the turmoil of the 1910s. He worked under the tutelage of yet another great nationalist leader, i.e. Mahatma Gandhi and became the renowned leader of the left-wing division of the Indian National Congress in the early 20th century and ultimately of the whole Congress party. After becoming the Congress President in the year 1929, Nehru exhorted the people of India to fight for complete independence from the British rule. Needless to say, our country achieved heights of success under his rule.

Our first president of independent India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad once said about Jawaharlal Nehru, “the country is marching forward on the road of progress under the leadership of Panditji.” Besides, being a great statesman, he was an equally great orator as well as writer too. There were many books that he wrote, such as “The Discovery of India”, “Glimpses of World History”, “An Autobiography: Toward Freedom”, “Letters from a Father to his Daughter”, etc.

Nehru was a true promoter of peace and laid down five important principles known as “Panchsheel”. He dedicated all his life for the good of our country. Today, when there is so much of corruption in our socio-political sphere, we truly need leaders like him who can work dedicatedly towards India’s growth and development.

Before I end my speech, let’s hear it from all of us “Bharat Mata ki Jai”!

Thank You!

thanks...
