a-b=36....... (1)

a/b=4

a=4b......(2)

substitute (2) in (1),

4b-b=36

3b=36

b=36/3

b=12

substitute b in (1),

a-12=36

a=36+12

a=48

Therefore the numbers are: 48, 12

Hi friend, Harish here.

Here is your answer.

Let the numbers be x , y and  let x > y .

Given that:

i) x - y = 36

ii) x = 4 y  ( ∵  Dividend = Quotient × Divisor + Remainder ; x - Dividend , 4 - Quotient , y- Divisor , Remainder = 0 )

Substituting (ii) in (i) :

4y - y = 36

⇒ 3y = 36

⇒ y = 12

And now substituting y value in (i) we get :

⇒ x - 12 = 36

⇒ x = 36 + 12 = 48
