अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी ने खुद को किसी खास विचारधारा के पहरेदार के रूप में स्थापित नहीं होने दिया। उनके प्रधानमंत्रित्व काल में कश्मीर से लेकर पाकिस्तान तक से बातचीत का सिलसिला शुरू हुआ था। अलगाववादियों से बातचीत के फैसले पर सवाल उठा कि क्या बातचीत संविधान के दायरे में होगी? तो उनका जवाब था, इंसानियत के दायरे में होगी।
