When investigating a possibly undescribed sap-transmissible virus it is desirable to have some information on certain elementary properties of the virus before commencing more comprehensive studies on its purification What is wanted is some information on its stability n concentration in the plant, because attempts at isolation r likely to be much more difficult if the virus in question is extremely labile r occurs in very low concentration The 3 elementary tests usually carried out r to determine ➡️(a) the ageing, or longevity in vitro, of the virus in extracted sap; ➡️(b) the thermal inactivation point n➡️ (c) the dilution end point
