The main source of livelihood refers to the source from which most of the money for livelihood is obtained from. Where there are several sources of livelihood, the most important one is referred to. In the 2005 microcensus, the following main sources of livelihood were covered: “employment”, “unemployment benefit I , II “pension”, “maintenance by parents, spouse, cohabiting partner or other relatives”, “own property, savings, interest, letting, life interest for old age”, “public assistance, social allowance, basic security benefits in old age and in cases of reduced earning capacity, benefits for asylum-seekers”, “benefits from long-term care insurance” and “other benefits (for instance, educational assistance [BAföG ], early retirement pay, scholarship)”.
