Gradient of the slope of the seats= 1/2

Height of the upper seats = 12m

Width = 12m

To find:

Height h of the bottom seats.

Solution:

By using co-ordinate geometry, a figure has been made of the stirs which is attached with the answer.

Slope = m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

= (12 - h - 0) / (0-(-20))

= (12-h) / 20

Since the gradient of the slope is given as 1/2, therefore this equation will be equal to 1/2.

(12 - h)/20 = 1/2

12 - h = 10

h= 12-10

h= 2

Therefore the height h of the bottom seats is 2m.
