c) What will happen to the mean if the child is 1.3 m tall ?

Solution -

In the above Question , we have the following information -

A group of 10 children have a mean height of 1.4 m .

So,

[ Sum of the height of 10 children ] / [ 10 ] = 1.4

=> [ Sum of the height of 10 children ] = 14 m.

Now,

a) The new child is 1.5 m tall .

So , [ Sum of the height of 10 children ] + Height of the new child

=> 14 m + 1.5 m

=> 15.5 m

Now, mean height -

=> [ Sum of the heights of 11 children ] / [ 11 ]

=> [ 15.5 / 11 ]

=> 1.4 m approximately . ..... [ A 1 ]

b) The new child is 1.4 m tall .

So , [ Sum of the height of 10 children ] + Height of the new child

=> 14 m + 1.4 m

=> 15.4 m

Now, mean height -

=> [ Sum of the heights of 11 children ] / [ 11 ]

=> [ 15.4 / 11 ]

=> 1.4 m . ......... [ A2]

c) The new child is 1.3 m tall .

So , [ Sum of the height of 10 children ] + Height of the new child

=> 14 m + 1.3 m

=> 15.3 m

Now, mean height -

=> [ Sum of the heights of 11 children ] / [ 11 ]

=> [ 15.3 / 11 ]

=> 1.39 m approximately . .. . ..... [ A ]
