Chapter 3 -

Clothes that we wear on a daily basis are made of fabrics. Fabrics are made of fibres which are obtained from natural and artificial sources. Wool, silk, and cotton are a few examples of natural fibres and fibres like polyesters and terylene are a few examples of synthetic fibres. In class 8 science chapter 3, the various types of synthetic fibres along with their characteristics are mentioned.

Chapter 10 -

The period of life, when the body undergoes changes, leading to reproductive maturity, is called adolescence. This is the time span in which the child develops into an adult.

Adolescence begins around the age of 11 and goes on until 18 or 19 years of age.

Adolescents are also called ‘teenagers’.

The body at this stage undergoes important changes and these mark the period of puberty.

Chapter 8 -

Cells are the fundamental structural units of living organisms and the basic units of life.

Prokaryotic – Size: generally small ( 1-10 µm) Where 1 µm = 10 −6m.

The nucleus is not well defined and known as a nucleoid.

Single, circular chromosome.

Membrane-bound organelles absent. Eg: Bacterial cell

Eukaryotic – Size: generally large ( 5-100 µm).

The nucleus is well defined and surrounded by a nuclear membrane.

Possess more than one and linear chromosome.

Membrane-bound cell organelles are present. Eg: Human cell.
