1)Pure quadratic equations are the ones which only have the x squared term and a constant term .
that is of the form
ax²+c = 0
that is b = 0,

in the above question , the coefficient of x ie (2b+6) should be zero .
therefore 2b=-6 or b=-3

2) for ax² + bx + c =0
sum of roots = -b/a
product = c/a

let x ,y be the roots .
then
x + y = -p
xy = -3

now
x² + y² = 10

adding 2xy both sides.

>x² +y² + 2xy = 10 + 2xy

>( x + y )² = 10 + 2( -3 )

>p² = 4

>p = +-2
