Solution

 \frac{ \frac{3}{4}y + 7 }{ \frac{2}{5}y - 4 }  =  \frac{5}{4}

 \frac{ \frac{3y + 28}{4} }{ \frac{2y - 20}{5} }  =  \frac{5}{4}

 \frac{5(3y + 28)}{4(2y - 20)}  =  \frac{5}{4}

 \frac{3y + 28}{2y - 30}  =  \frac{5}{4}  \times  \frac{4}{5}

 \frac{3y + 28}{2y - 30}  = 1

3y + 28 = 2y - 30

 3y - 2y =  - 30 - 28

y =  - 58
