Among the tamils , there are two sub groups called sri lankan tamils (13%) and indian tamils (5%). Most of the Sinhalese were Buddhists and tamils were hindus or muslims. There are 7% christians. Srilankan tamils are the native people of sri lanka while indian tamils are the ones who descended from india as indentured labourers.
