1/v + 1/u = 1/f
v is positive, u is negative. f is positive.
Given magnification = 1/2 = - v/u
So v = - u/2
=> 1/v + 1/u = 1/f
-2/u + 1/u = 1/18
- 1/u =1/18
u = - 18 cm
Hence object is at a distance of 18 cm from the mirror.
Image is formed at -u/2 = + 9cm behind the mirror.
