The word is a collection of things which are more or less real. The most real things are what we know as ‘ideas’. An idea in its essence is a pattern. The number “1” is a pattern, which is eternal and changeless. Near the other end of the spectrum is a cloud, for example, which is a real thing for a minute and then dissipates into something else. The most real thing, according to Plato, is the pure form of goodness and beauty, which in their fundamental form are the same thing.
