(i) Planaria, insects, octopus and vertebrates all have eyes. Can we group eyes of these animals together to establish a common evolutionary origin? Justify your answer. (ii) "Birds have evolved from reptiles" State evidence to prove the statement.

Explanation:

i)The planaria, octopus, insects and vertebrates all have the eyes. These eyes vary in structure. The insect eyes are compound in nature also the eye in Planaria is simple and the eyes in vertebrates are specialized.

Also the comparision of eyes cannot be considered a relevant parameter for establishment of common evolutionary origin in animals.

Other features like complexity in structure of the body, eating habit, molecular  and cellular organization are the necessary for grouping the organisms.

ii). Some dinosaurs had feathers but they could not fly. The birds have evolved  from the lineage of dinosaurs as they have feathers that help in insulation of body and for flying which is an advancement feature in the lineage thus this can be said that birds have evolved from reptiles.
