Given : P(-2,4) and Q(-2,-5).

To find : length of PQ  & Points I & J on PQ such that PI = IJ = JQ

Solution:

P = ( - 2, 4)

Q = (- 2, - 5)

PQ = √(-2 - (-2))² + (-5 - 4)² =  9

Length of PQ = 9

PI  =   IJ  =  JQ

=> PI = PQ/3

PJ = 2PQ/3

P  ( - 2, 4)   Q = (- 2, - 5)

I divides PQ  into 1 : 2  Ratio

I  =   ( -2 - 4)/3 , (-5 + 8)/3  =  (-2 , - 1)

J divides PQ into 2 : 1 Ratio

=> J =  ( -4 - 2)/3 , (-10 + 4)/3  =  (-2 , -2)

I = (-2 , 1)  & J = (-2 , - 2)
