Tax = 8%

Let the original price be Rs X and tax

$8\% \: of \: x + x = 5400$

$\frac{8}{100} \times \frac{x}{1} + \frac{x}{1} = 5400$

$\frac{2x}{25} + \frac{x}{1} = 5400$

$\frac{2x + 25x}{25} = 5400$

$\frac{27x}{25} = 5400$

$x = \frac{5400}{1} \times \frac{25}{27}$

$x = 5000$
