I read 4/9 of a book on one day and 3/5 of the remaining the next day.If 100 pages of the book wereviews still left unread,how many pages did the book contains?

$\frac{4x}{9} + \frac{3x}{5} + 100 = x$

$\frac{20x + 27 x + 4500}{45} = x$

$\frac{47x + 4500}{45} = x$

47x + 4500 = 45x 

2x = 4500

x    = 4500/2 = 2250

Let X be the total number of pages

first day read 4X/9

remaining pages = X-4X/9 = 5X/9

Next day read 3/5 of 5X/9 = X/3

Remaining pages = 100

so X = 4X/9 + X/3 + 100

X = (7X + 900)/9

9X = 7X + 900

2X = 900

X = 450

Ans total number of pages = 450
