Once upon a time there was a piece of wood. It wasn't a fancy piece of wood, just a regular woodpile log, the kind you might put in your stove or fireplace to stoke a fire and heat your room.

i) second person. (it could be first person too. because he uses pronoun "you".)

ii) the pronoun that tells is "you". by this he tries to address us. only second person uses the pronoun "you" to address to whom he's talking.

iii) It wasn't a fancy piece of wood, just a regular woodpile log, the kind anyone might put in his stove or fireplace to stoke a fire and heat his room.
