I returned a book to the library yesterday. It was two weeks overdue, so I had to pay a fine of $1.40. I should have returned the book when it was due.

Follow the following tips to fill in the blanks with correct form of verb.

1. First check if there is any signal word or not in the sentence.

If yes then go to step number 3 otherwise go to step 2.

2. Determine what type of action is it?

3. Determine the tense of the sentence and find the correct form of the verb.

4. Check if the sentence is a interrogative or not.

If yes then go to step 7 otherwise go to step 6.

5. Check if there is any auxiliary in the sentence.

If yes then go to step 7 otherwise go to step 6.

6. In case of simple present use ‘do’ or ‘does’. In case of simple past use ‘did’.

7. Check whether the statement or the question is negative or not.

If yes then go to step 8 otherwise go to step 9.

8. Put ‘not’ after the auxiliary. In case of simple present use ‘don’t’ or ‘doesn’t ’. In case of simple past use ‘didn’t ’.

9. Now fill the correct form of verb in the blank.
