Indirect/Reported speech refers to speech being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: He said,"We won the match". (Direct)

               He said that they won the match. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in reported/indirect form, the sentence changes according to its tense form. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'today' changes to 'that day', 'you' changes to 'I', 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day', 'will' changes to would' and many other words will have to be made.

I said,"Anita is writing a story". (Direct)
