Indirect/Reported Speech refers to a dialogue being told to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: Dobre said,"I will record a video." (Direct)

Dobre said that he would record a video. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'this' changes to 'that', 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day', 'will' changes to 'would', 'can' changes to 'could' and many other words have to be made. Also, if the sentence contains an interrogation, then 'said' changes to 'asked'.Punctuation marks other than a full stop (.) cannot be used in indirect/reported speech.

I said,"I saw your father yesterday." (Direct)

Since the second person isn't specified above, we'll assume that the second person is a 'He'.

I said that I had seen his father the previous day. (Indirect)

Correct question :- I said, "I saw your father yesterday."

We have to change it to its indirect speech form.

Answer:

I said that I had seen your/his father the previous day.

Explanation:

While converting to indirect speech, the inverted commas are replaced with that or in case of imperatives, they are replaced usually with to. The tense changes to the respective past tense. Here, simple past tense changed to Past perfect tense.

Here, it is not specified whether the speaker is saying this to the second person, or someone else, hence here, your or his, both can be used.
