I saw a boy, a little thin boy, sobbing and crying. He was huddled against a brick wall on the far side of town. Cuts and bruises lined his ribbed figure. I walked over to him, mildly concerned of his well-being.
"Hey kid, you alright?" I ask softly as I crouch beside him, my feet pressing hard in the snow. He looks up relieving his deep blue eyes. He rubs his hands together,
"I'm okay, just a little cold." He responds, still rubbing his hands in a desperate attempt to get warm. He leaned his head back on the wall, his eyes slowly opening and closing.
"What happened?" I ask, my voice hardly more than a whisper. He coughed, the pressure shaking his whole body, drawing blood.
He licked his lips,"Goodbye." I furrow my brow,
"What?" He closed his eyes, and they never opened again.
And that, is the story of the little boy, who died in the snow.
