Poem and Poet: these lines are taken from the famous lyric “ A Little Grain of Gold” written by Rabindranath Tagore. The poem is an extract from Tagore’s Gitanjali, is a collection of song offerings celebrating the glory of God.

Context: when the king of kings approached the beggar and asked what he would give him. The beggar gives king a little grain from his wallet.

Explanation: the beggar when he was in his usual begging rounds. He saw the golden chariot was approaching close to him. He thought all miseries have come to an end. He was expecting wealth from the king. The king stopped at the beggar. All of sudden the king of kings held out his right hand and begged alms of him. The poet thought that the king of kings was simply joking with him. He offers the least little grain to the king of kings reluctantly.

Critical Appreciation: The word ‘slowly’ used in the poem suggests the poet’s reluctance to give alms to the king. Again, the expression “least little grain” shows how miserly the poet beggar was.

hope this helps :)
