A rainbow can be seen just after a heavy rainfall. The water droplets that remain after a rainfall play the role of a prism through which light rays are scattered. A rainbow is visible in a place which lies exactly opposite to the position of the sun. At first the light rays undergo refraction and dispersion through the water droplets and later they also undergo total internal reflection  due to which monochromatic light rays are scattered into seven colors which form the rainbow.
