Inertial Frame

Explanation:

  • A frame of reference in which no mechanical forces are exerted and hence moves with constant velocity without any acceleration is called an Inertial frame of reference.
  • On the other hand, non - inertial frame of references with non zero mechanical forces have some finite amount of acceleration and do not move with constant velocity.
  • Earth from a cosmic point of view ,moves in an elliptical orbit and so it has a centripetal acceleration so it is a non-inertial frame of reference.
  • But, from an observer on earth, there is no net acceleration so it behaves as a inertial frame of reference.
