Given :

Initial reading = 2500km

Final reading = 4000km

Time of journey = 8hr

To Find :

Average speed of car in km/hr and m/s.

Solution :

❖ Average speed of body is defined as the ratio of total distance travelled to the total time taken.

  • It is a scalar quantity having only magnitude.
  • It can't be negative.
  • SI unit : m/s
  • Dimension formula : [T¹]

\sf:\implies\:V_{av}=\dfrac{R_{final}-R_{initial}}{Time}

\sf:\implies\:V_{av}=\dfrac{4000km-2500km}{8hr}

\sf:\implies\:V_{av}=\dfrac{1500}{8}

:\implies\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{\red{V_{av}=187.5\:km/hr}}}}

We know that, 1 km/hr = 5/18 m/s

∴ 187.5 km/hr = 187.5 × 5/18

:\implies\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{\orange{V_{av}=52.08\:ms^{-1}}}}}
