Given :  The runs scored by a batsman in 5 ODIs are 31, 97, 112, 63, and 12.

To Find :  the standard deviation

Solution:

Mean = ( 31 + 97 + 112 + 63 + 12) / 5

= 315/5

= 63

∑(x - mean)²  = ( 31 - 63)²  + (97 - 63)² + (112 - 63)² + (63 - 63)²  + (12 - 63)²

= 1024 + 1156 + 2401 + 0 + 2601

= 7182

SD = √7182/5

≈ 37.9

standard deviation is about 37.9
